Pop-up Hat Shop for Cheltenham Races 2017

Sahar Millinery

Races Millinery Special:

Pop up Hat Shop launches in Cheltenham ahead of Ladies Day

Atelier 19 in Suffolk Road, Cheltenham is a romantic wonderland of gowns, accessories and treasures. For two weeks in March they will be celebrating Cheltenham Races by hosting London Milliner Sahar Freemantle who will be showcasing her best racing hats in time for Ladies Day.

Tuesday 28th February to Wednesday 15th March

Sahar showcases work featuring real butterflies mounted on hats, as well as vintage inspired statement headpieces suitable for racing season, brides and wedding guests.

The collaboration with Jan Knibbs, founder of Atelier 19, came about when Jan and Sahar met at a London installation where they both exhibited. Having been brought up in Evesham and studied at Cheltenham Art College, Sahar is really excited to be back, 15 years later: ‘Jan’s shop has a whimsical and vintage vibe, in which you can forget about the outside world. Customers coming for this pop up may feel like they’ve fallen down the rabbit hole in time for the Mad Hatter’s most glamorous party. I can’t wait to be back in Cheltenham, maybe I’ll even find time to re-visit Pitville Campus!’

Sahar now lives in London and has made hats for Downton Abbey and displayed them at the V&A. Each piece is handmade and ladies can make appointments for bespoke pieces or pick up something ready made.

Hat prices range from £30 - £550.

Special Event:

Mad Hatters Tea Party and Fascinator Making Workshop:

Sahar will also be offering a millinery workshop on Saturday 11th March 10am – 1pm followed by a vintage style ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ 1pm – 2pm.

The millinery workshop is £50 per person, where you will learn how to use Sinamay, the most commonly used material for wedding hats. Sahar will teach you how to sculpt this into flowers, manipulate feathers and attach birdcage veiling and other trinkets to your creations. Each participant will leave with their own fascinator.

You can then enjoy a vintage style Mad Hatters Tea Party and enjoy Afternoon Tea with fresh cakes and treats, whilst wearing your own creations (or Sahar’s!) for £15.

Ticket for both: £65 To book your place email:
